One of our first-time visitors told us our team took time to analyze their scalp and cater the service to their scalp needs, and they left feeling “so revived.” To keep that fresh, clean feeling after your scalp massage, stick to one rule first: don’t wash your hair for at least 12 to 24 hours. Then for the next 24 to 48 hours, avoid heavy sweating and direct sun, keep products gentle, and follow any scalp serum directions your therapist gave you.
Your 0 to 48-hour plan after our Calm | 60 minutes Head Spa
Calm is our 60-minute signature head spa ritual. We combine a gentle scalp cleanse, warm water therapy, and a relaxing scalp, neck, and shoulder massage to help you feel completely at ease. That means your scalp is freshly cleansed and your skin barrier is usually a little more “open” than normal for a day or two.
Do this first: Wait 12 to 24 hours before shampooing. It helps your scalp stay balanced after warm water therapy and cleansing.
First 12 to 24 hours
- Skip washing your hair. If you absolutely need to freshen up, we generally recommend a quick lukewarm water rinse only, no scrubbing.
- Don’t scratch or “check” your scalp in the mirror all day. Your fingers can irritate freshly cleansed skin.
- If your scalp looks a bit pink right after, that’s usually normal after a massage and cleansing.
First 24 to 48 hours
- Avoid heavy sweating (hard runs, hot yoga, sauna). Sweat plus heat can kick up itching for some people.
- Avoid direct sun on the scalp. If you’re heading toward Huntington Beach after your appointment, grab a breathable hat and don’t rub your scalp if you sweat.
- Skip ocean or pool time for 24 to 48 hours. Salt and chlorine can be rough on a freshly cleansed scalp.
A lot of our Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach clients book around I-405 commutes or before beach days. If that’s you, keep it simple: cooler showers, light layers, and blot sweat at the hairline instead of rubbing your scalp.
The first week: keep the “revived scalp” feeling, skip the setbacks
Clients often tell us their scalp feels noticeably refreshed after the session. The first week is where that dry scalp therapy work can last or disappear fast, depending on what you do at home.
What to keep doing
- Wash gently. Use your fingertips, not nails, and focus on the scalp instead of piling product on your lengths.
- Rinse really well. Leftover shampoo or conditioner can feel like buildup and can trigger itch.
- Pay attention to your neck and shoulders. Calm includes scalp, neck, and shoulder massage for a reason. Tension tends to creep right back in if you’re commuting or carrying stress.
What to avoid for 48 to 72 hours
- Hair color, perms, relaxers, or strong chemical treatments. Give your scalp time to settle first.
- Heavy oils or thick scalp “masks” that sit on the skin all day. These can feel soothing at first, then turn into congestion for some scalps.
- Dry shampoo overload. If you need it, use it lightly and shampoo it out thoroughly next wash.
We’re right on the Warner Avenue commercial corridor in southwest Fountain Valley near Brookhurst Road, close to the Huntington Beach border. A lot of people swing by before a Mile Square Park walk or after errands. If you’re planning sun or sweat that day, we’ll help you pick the best appointment time so you’re not fighting your scalp afterward.
Gentle products that make scalp massage and hair growth goals easier
People ask us about scalp massage and hair growth a lot. Here’s the honest answer: scalp massage supports circulation and helps you stay consistent with scalp care, but your day-to-day routine is what usually decides if your scalp stays clear and comfortable.
Our simple at-home lineup
- Sulfate-free, gentle shampoo for your regular washes, especially in the first week.
- Lightweight conditioner on mid-lengths and ends. Keep it off your scalp unless we specifically recommend otherwise.
- Any scalp serum we recommended, used sparingly. More product is not better on the scalp.
And if you’re dealing with flakes or recurring itch, don’t play product roulette. Bring in what you’re currently using. We’ll talk it through with you the same way our team does during the service, asking about your routine and what your scalp is actually doing day to day.
When to reach out to us (and when it’s totally normal)
Most people leave Calm feeling relaxed, and a lot of clients tell us they almost fall asleep during the scalp massage. Afterward, mild redness or a “tingly clean” feeling can happen, especially if your scalp was congested going in.
Reach out right away if you notice persistent itching that doesn’t calm down, swelling, sharp pain, or irritation that keeps getting worse over 24 to 48 hours. Let us know what you’re feeling, what you used at home, and when you washed, and we’ll guide you on next steps.
“What I appreciated most was that she didn’t just perform the service and send me on my way. She took the time to ask about my current hair care routine, what products I use at home, and any concerns I had with my scalp and hair.”
